Pain in the Grass
Annually, a thrilling, all-day, hard rock festival called Pain in the Grass occurs in Auburn, WA, a city neighboring Enumclaw. Both cities are about 30 minutes south of Seattle and in clear view of Mount Rainier, weather depending. For the past three years, my sister and I have been fortunate to attend the festival and have seen some killer bands over the years, including Godsmack, Slipknot, Disturbed, and many, many more.
Down with the Sickness
I was privileged to take photos of the show, and some of the best below. This was the second time that I saw Disturbed this summer, so I included some of those photos too; it was at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Highlights of the concert:
- If you’ve never seen Disturbed in concert, you absolutely must. The band’s performance represents the epitome of power and energy. Lead Singer David Draiman sings and directs the audience, much like a masterful conductor of an orchestra (reference Bramwell Tovey, for instance).
- The band’s stage presence is over-the-top phenomenal. Fire, explosions, and smoke fill the background, while super talented Bassist John Moyer, Guitarist Dan Donegan, and Drummer Mike Wengren dominate the forefront of the stage. Truly sensational talent!
- Disturbed recently released an exceptional cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.” (I recommend downloading and listening to both the original and current versions for sure!) In this particular show, Myles Kennedy, lead singer of Alter Bridge, joined David Draiman on stage to sing the song in harmony. To say that this performance was out of this world is an incredible understatement. Check out the YouTube video below from a fellow audience member.
