Adventure means excitement! Thrill! Fun! Feeling alive, being happy, and laughing. On one level, the concept of adventure is closely tied to a large and magnificent feat. The discovery a new land, jumping out of a plane, climbing a mountain. Something huge and wild.
On another level, adventure presents itself in smaller forms. Eating at a new restaurant, visiting a friend, driving the long way home, taking an inspiration challenge, listening to a new song, walking in your backyard, observing nature. Something small and inspiring…
It’s so easy to fall into a pattern. Wake up, work, go home, eat, watch TV, sleep. Repeat. It happens to most of us. We settle in, we follow the pattern, we’re busy, and we don’t have time to try new things. In fact, we “give up” a little bit. When we settle into a pattern, especially one like this, we tend to become blindsided by how quickly time flies by. Suddenly, it’s Friday again or Monday again. Christmas is around the corner. We’re celebrating another birthday. Years and decades pass. Where did the time go? What have I done all of those years?
What if finding adventure is a solution to breaking daily patterns, slowing down time a little bit, and helping us to feel truly alive? What if simple adventures, every day or just a couple a week, help to change the mundane and open a new door?
Maybe by simply recognizing that participating in a new or unknown event is actually adventure, our minds begin to open. By opening our eyes and ears and being available to find the adventure of the moment, we can lead an exciting life. We can be thrill seekers and explorers by simply embracing the true concepts of adventure: openness, observation, and participation.
Sometimes we might need a small nudge to find the journey of the day. A journey in your home, your backyard, or even within your mind can be just as inspirational as a journey across the Pyrenees or Appalachian Trail. I might do these particular travels some day. Or, I might not. Who knows? But in the meantime, I will seek daily adventure and inspiration also by my own personal journey of life. I will share my adventures and observations in hope of inspiring others to do the same. Or maybe just to make people laugh. Either is fine with me.
The best is yet to come… Nici
Yes, maybe the best IS yet to come. The good thing is that we have no idea
what is in store for us.
So true, Vivian!!
